Aretha had not toured much since the mid-80's, and plays to a very excited crowd of enthusiastic screamers and clappers... at least until the end of the show. Read the accompanying article for some foreshadowing. What exactly happened at the end of the concert is unclear from the recording.
Barry used a pair of CSBs or similar, small, mics that clipped onto his glasses or hat. They need some EQ to add bass and reduce the midrange.
