Source: unknown mics > Aiwa cassette recorder > Shelly Rosenzweig's master cassette (Maxell UR 90)

Transfer: master cassette > Nakamichi CR-7A (head azimuth optimized) > Metric Halo MIO-2882 > Macintosh MacBook Pro > MIO Console 5.6 > wav > MacBook Air M1 > iZotope RX 12 Advanced (volume fluctuations at several points throughout adjusted; Azimuth tool used to center stereo image (but it too fluctuates); first 3 minutes left channel discarded due to severe tape alignment issues, converted to mono then Ozone Imager 2 stereoize function used to create a stereo image (first 3 minutes only); entire recording normalized 4.6 db) > xACT 2.59 > flac (24/48)

Notes
This is from the Sheldon Rosenzweig collection. Special thanks to Shelly for sharing his tapes. Transferred by Richard Russell, October 2026.

Tape was not dated, and no venue was noted. However, Big Jack Johnson and The Jelly Roll Kings are known to have played The Chukker in Tuscaloosa on Nov. 5, 1992, which fits when Shelly Rosenzweig was actively recording shows. This is almost assuredly from that date.

I hear Shelly, the presumed taper, clearly on the recording, but it's possible this is a first-generation tape recorded by someone else. (Most of Shelly's recordings employed a single non-stereo mic, while this was made with a stereo mic or mics.)

I removed about 60 seconds of mostly microphone noise from Track 1.

Thanks to RobbieM for assistance with titles and research.

Big Jack Johnson, guitar, vocals
probably Frank Frost, organ, harmonica, vocals
probably Sam Carr, drums
possibly others
