note1 from an earlier seed
I have a copy of the bootleg 'Masques Off', which is a sub-74-minute edit of this recording,
presumably to fit the old CD size and the tape-flip edits in and around tracks 3 and 4 on this recording.
This recording is longer, but the track edits are not quite correct:
1 - 'Black Moon' is not cut short, it finishes around 8:55 minutes into track 3.
2 - The rest of track 3 is the start of 'Mayfield'.
3 - There is a break at the end of track 3, as well as another break around 1:10 into track 4, which was maybe the tape-flip on the mixing desk during 'Mayfield.

note2 from an earlier seed
For such a malnourished Brand X fan of 76, 77 and 79, I may have seen more 78 shows than most Xers (3 in 1 city), and I've heard almost as many
(it seems) as all the other years put together. I got this in trade years ago, no idea of any lineage for it, but it sounds pretty clean. This trade happened
because I asked him "got any 76 or 77 Brand X? (I vaguely recall he said he had a 77 soundboard, and that this is it. He gave it to me thinking it is from
1977, but the songs and band lineup give this away as a 1978 show. It is a good one too, sounds like Mike was getting familiar with the material and
feeling comfortable in Brand X's homeland (judging by his playing, he sounds good here). No unusual songs in here, I think it's close to a whole show,
not much missing for 1 tape flip interruption. I've heard 78 shows that sound okay, pretty good, this I'd rate a very good concert for all of them.
there's a saying, a clean cat will never take a dump in its own back yard. Brand X certainly didn't do that here. Masques still isn't one of my fave
Brand X discs but that's only because I've seen these guys 3 times, never in 76, 77 or 79 which are my 3 favorites of theirs, lots of music I like
alot there. My opinion of Masques moved up a little after hearing this show.
the tape hasn't been played much at all, because I have several of the other years recordings that get alot more attention for my Percy and Goodsall
needs. I don't know why, but 78 Brand X tapes seem to conglomerate to me. I've had a few people say 78 is the rarest Brand X. Not in my collection.
All the other stuff is rarer in my collection. Boston is very good for alot of things music. Not for Brand X. So after all the New England 78
Brand X you've heard from me, bits and pieces of Brand X that is hardly a real Brand X concert or anything like one (imho) you ought to hear what 78
Brand X is SUPPOSED to sound like in Old England (when Goodsalless and coping-NOT CRINGING). This concert offers us that chance.
there is a remote suggestion that this could be Oct. 3rd, but there is supposedly a date of Oct. 1st for this location, and I do not believe Brand X
did a 3 night run at the Rainbow. Eric Clapton, maybe, Brand X??? not. Or even a 2 night run. Not even in London. Without John Goodsall??? No way.
that's like showing off the brand new Ferrari, and removing its engine. Although Mike Miller does pretty well here in the shoes (not feet) of a god.

note3 by GLASNOSTRD
Peter Robinson plays keyboards (he replaced Robin Lumley)
one of the 1978 shows I saw in Boston had 2 guitarists, Goodsall and Mike Miller.
that is still the only Brand X I recall hearing with 2 guitarists.
most of them had Mike Miller, as Goodsall was suffering from tendonitis that year but the 10/24 show had both of them (Goodsall only played in part of it) and the 10/25 just had Mike Miller. the 1st of 3 shows in Boston earlier that year was just a quartet with no guitarist at all.
