Part of a quick Northeast jaunt in the week running up to the Breeders' appearance at the Solid Sound Festival, this was an outdoor show at a venue that, as the name implies, is on the roof of a building, on a pier adjacent to the old South Street Seaport in lower Manhattan. Sound can be a little wonky there, but the setting is stunning, with the band playing against the backdrop of the Brooklyn Bridge and looking out at New York Harbor — leading to Kim Deal's show-opening remark, "Where the fuck ARE we?" Fun setlist, with lots of early songs from "Pod" and "Last Splash" plus three brand-new ones. Kate Wakefield of Cincinnati's Lung joined the band on cello and backing vocals.
