This was part of the annual PNE Summer Night Concert Series. These used to take place in the old PNE Amphitheatre, which was essentially a parking lot with a temporary flat bed truck stage facing some soggy, rotting wooden bleachers. 2023 was the final year they used the old amphitheatre before demolishing it and commencing work on a new updated version. In 2024 and 2025 they held the PNE Summer Night Concerts inside the Pacific Coliseum
Earlier the same day, Wide Mouth Mason played a free show on the west side of 17th Ave at Cambie St in Vancouver. I rode my bike to that show, which began at 18:00 and went for ~90 minutes. Once WMM concluded I packed up and pedalled about 9km across town, locked my bike outside the Hastings Casino and walked over to the Coliseum. Google suggests that ride should take almost 40 minutes but apparently it only took me ~25. The concert was scheduled to start at 20:00, however I was still plugging cables in at 19:58 and Colin James' set had already began, which means they would have started roughly 5 minutes early.
Bass player Jeff Jones was the only member of Burton's band who used IEM, and he only used a mono feed in one ear. His mix wasn't even dual mono, just a single left channel. Halfway through Burton's set, his lone IEM feed suddenly went silent. I don't know what happened. I began to troubleshoot, thinking it may be a problem on my end. Tried different equipment, cables, etc. But it was no use. After several songs worth of silence, I gave up. They played another 7 songs, making the full concert about 90 minutes. Fairly standard set from Burton. I was wondering if Colin James would sit in for an encore song but as far as I know that never happened.
I remixed this IEM feed in post to simulate a stereo recording, and create a better balance between instruments and vocals. There's a few warts in the first minute of the first song but after that it turned out pretty good.
