there is much debate on stage as cowboy junkies appear for the encore

one particularly strident shout for 'misguided angel' from the crowd and margo and mike end up in a protracted discussion regarding its merits

at least its merits at that precise moment

and it strikes me that managing forty years as a band, on tour and off, with three siblings in the ranks, must be some kind of miracle

this amused and affectionate back and forth is about as close as i've ever seen the timminses come to a familial knockabout in all the years i've been seeing them play

no davies, everly or (god help us) gallagher style freeze outs in all that time

though there are, of course, three other timmins siblings

so maybe they just left the difficult half of the family at home...

whatever the secret, it creates tonight, as ever, musical moods as compellingly entrancing as any in music

whether hushed and sepulchral or freak-out ferocious, cowboy junkies take you somewhere

at least once they've made up their minds on the setlist anyway
