"Stratcat58" notes;
This is a partial recording of Deep Purple’s 1973-05-27 Felt Forum NYC appearance from the 2nd of their 3 nights there (May 26th, 27th, and 30th).
Rory Gallagher was the opener for all 3 Felt Forum shows.
For those who are not aware, the Felt Forum was part of the Madison Square Garden complex in NYC and was located underneath the main Madison Square Garden arena.
It still exists and is currently known as “The Theater at Madison Square Garden”.

The various Felt Forum recordings from this tour have proved to be a bit of a puzzle to collectors as there has always been some confusion as to which recording is from which night.
The consensus is that there are no known recordings that circulate from the first night (May 26th), a partial recording from the 2nd night on the 27th (this one), and two versions of a recording from the 3rd night on the 30th.
A ~71 minute recording and a slightly shorter but better sounding version that runs ~61 minutes.

Deep Purple had exploded in popularity in the States by this point with “Machine Head”, “Made in Japan”, and “Who Do We Think We Are” all residing in the US Billboard Top 20 Album Chart.
As a teenager who grew up in the New York City suburbs around this time, I clearly remember the local FM rock stations like WPLJ and WNEW suddenly giving Deep Purple lots of airplay after pretty much ignoring them prior to that.

But unbeknownst to the general public, this incarnation of the band was in the process of playing out their touring commitments before calling it a day with their final shows scheduled for the end of June ’73 in Japan.
Ian Gillan had already informed the band the previous December that he would be leaving the group.
And Roger Glover was days away from having a showdown with Purple’s management and finding out that his services were no longer required.
Blackmore had also planned to leave but had recently been talked into continuing with new members (financial considerations no doubt playing a major role in that decision)

"Lucifer Burns" notes;
I did a transfer of a cassette tape received in trade from "PEJ" back on 1989-01-23 onto a CDR many years ago.
No longer having kept the original cassette tape i decided to ty and work off my old CDR transfer to try and produce a new & improved sound.
I asked "stratcat58" to help in making sure the old transfer was running at the correct speed/pitch.
Together we present a much improved over all version for your "earjoyment".

PLEASE ENJOY THE MUSIC, WHILE YOU STILL CAN, BEFORE YOU'RE DEAD! AND WE'RE ALL DYING IN HERE, BUT YOU'RE NOT DEAD YET, BUT YOU WILL BE SOON AND WHAT GOOD WILL YOUR RECORDINGS BE THEN WHEN YOU'RE DEAD AND GONE AND YOU'RE NO LONGER HERE TO ENJOY THEM ANYMORE WITH ANYONE ELSE, SO LET'S NOT DIE WITHOUT SHARING OUR RECORDINGS...
