I was so glad so many of you enjoyed my first up of the uncirculated 1996 Steely Dan Chicago show. It was nice to see people
I really respect around here like lvrwm, TheTooleMan & Tapeworm enjoying the first show. It's amazing to see that almost 225
have downloaded that show in less than a week! So let's skip ahead 10 years and how about some more Wayne Kratntz? Well more
importantly, how about a never before released Donald Fagen show!!?? Because of Buttmanos and his dedication, it looks like
this should be up & ready to go for the start of the Steely Dan 2011 "Shuffle Diplomacy" Tour and that will coincide with the
start of the 4th of July holiday weekend here in the States. Both great reasons to enjoy this uncirculated gem of a show.

I've been waiting over 6 years to share this show and debunk and clear up a "cloud" that has been hanging over this amazing night
for almost 7 years now. I guess it all started with two lousy reviews after the show and we were left wondering, "Did these two
tin eared reviewers EVEN see the same show the rest of us did??!"

http://www.variety.com/review/VE1117930051?categoryid=1266&cs=1

I don't know if these lame reviews finally put Donald Fagen over the edge or not but soon after this was posted on the "Lexi Says"
page over at donaldfagen.com

NOTE - These remarks have since been taken down:

"It's always the same with these L.A. audiences. We had so much fun in Vegas and Temecula with all the dancing drunk people.
In L.A., with all the too-cool-for-school music biz people out there, you can't seem to get much of a response, so you start
working too hard, become unmusical, you start feeling like an asshole, like Sammy Davis, Jr. or something. Sometimes I wish
my mom had taught me to tap... it would have come in handy."

"Also, I guess they've never been to a jazz club, no interest in soloing as an art, no attention span, really. They don't have
a clue. They're waiting for some old wormy radio hits from when they were humping some girl on the hood of a Datsun Z car. I
wish I was dead."

OUCH. But finally we are going prove Fagen wrong. All recorded from the left front row of the balcony. How do you tell one
of your musical heros that he was being a cry baby and a total arrogant tool? I've lived here for over 13 years now and I
can tell you that on this night this "L.A. too-cool-for-school" crowd went ape shit. And you can finally hear it for yourself.
It was one of the MOST appreciative and giving crowds of the 4 shows I saw that tour. And this was on a Monday night in L.A. !!
We would have LOVED to have been able to dance! But the Wiltern staff shut that down. Listen to the cock block usher early on.
"We aint having none of that tonight" And this L.A. crowd still brought it. On a Monday night.

The late Rajah Of Erase and Miss Gretchen from the dandom.com Bluebook threw a "Donfest" over at Opus before the show where guests
included the Co-Founder of the great Steely Dan Fanzine "Metal Leg", Pete Fogel. Just listen to this "quiet" crowd when they sing,
"Won't You pour me a Cuban Breeze, Gretchen". Donald says we don't like soloing? Really? That's funny, just listen to this crowd
during "Maxine" and during a stellar "Mary Shut The Garden Door". Listen for the applause for Walt Weiskopf. We haven't been to
a jazz club and we don't like soloing? Well what is that going on after each solo during "Mis'ry & The Blues"?!

"You're a funny bunch" - yeah, right this crowd is quiet and one big douche. Over at "Lexi Says" at DF.com after a bad review Lexi
always writes a scathing post about the reviewer tragically dying with their head up their ass. Well after listening to this
recording you will clearly find that it was in fact Donald Fagen himself who had his head up his ass as to what he perceived from
this "L.A. crowd" this Monday night in March in 2006.

Maybe this "wrong" self consciousness pushed him harder because this was one hell of a damn fine show. Some say, one of the best nights
of the tour. One of the best "Here At The Western World" you will ever hear even if you don't like the revamped version. I asked myself
should I call this show, "I'm Going To Do It Again, I Liked It So Much" because of the amazing "Home At Last" take or "You're A Funny Bunch"?
I settled on the later. I've split the tracks over two discs and the reason we close disc one with "Goodbye Look" will become very
apparent. It clearly is a disc one/side one closer! During the early '90's I often received bootleg cassette tapes that were often marked,
"PLAY LOUD". Well, I'm going to say the same thing, "PLAY LOUD". Not because this by any means is a "quiet" recording, but because I was
right in front of the left speaker in the front of the balcony and it saturated the DAT in such a great way. So play it loud, cause that is
how it was up in the front of the balcony of the Wiltern that wonderful Monday night.

In the crowd that night: Ted Danson, Jodie Foster, Alan Rosenberg, Marg Helgenberger, Eliott Scheiner and Lee Sklar.

"That band was tight last night, they played like the aces they are. Nothing dragged, not even Black Friday. Keith got a few more licks
in there, Carolyn wowed 'em on the Maxine verse, Donald was on it, he was Donald Fagen last night, Maestro and bandleader extraordinaire,
no blown lyrics and nary a clam in earshot. He doesn't ad-lib, he don't tell no stories and he don't spank hecklers, he just plays."

-The late Rajah Of Erase via the March 2006 dandom.com Bluebook

"The Wiltern show in LA last night was stellar. The sound was beautifully clear, and the performance flawless and energetic. I think
this has been the best on this particular tour so far."

-Gretchen via the March 2006 dandom.com Bluebook

After hearing "Pretzel Logic" on disc two one might agree with her.

Dedicated to the lovely "nor'easter" Miss Gretchen. 'La vita deve andare avanti' - 'Life must carry on'
