Well we hope that you have enjoyed all of the Steely Dan/Donald Fagen shows in this summer's "Lurker Ray's Summer Sampler" and in honor of the start of the NYC Beacon run, here is the last unreleased Fagen Solo tour show I have and the last show of that tour and in a separate torrent, the unreleased "Lunch With Gina Lasts Forever" from the 2003 tour. I am getting very busy again now that summer is over and I won't be posting any more of my shows until after the tour, perhaps I will get some free time during Thanksgiving, but I make no promises. Much thanks goes to WombBoy & Buttmanos for their hard work in bringing you these shows.
DONALD FAGEN BAND - NIXON WITH CHUCK TAYLORS ON
LIVE - ARLINGTON THEATRE SANTA BARBARA MARCH 31, 2006
It rained all the way up from LA and all day in Santa Barbara that last day of March 2006 but that damp weather didn't dampen the hotso show Donald Fagen and company had in store for us. The last show of the tour and this band is pulling out all of the stops. The Arlington in Santa Barbara was built in 1929 and still holds all of its charm and you will agree pretty damn great sound for an old movie theater that to this day primarily is used to show films. I thought the recording levels of the opening song were a bit loud so I dialed it back and I think we got a pretty spectacular "Morph The DAT" effect once again in this show. Special thanks goes to Donald's sound crew for the great sound the whole tour and especially for the work at tweaking and dialing it in this old movie palace from days gone by. You can actually hear Donald loud and clear in the Maxine mix really nice and probably technically more spot on then San Diego but I still like the spaciousness of San Diego version but hey you might like this Maxine better. I know it's my favorite version of Goodbye Look from the tour.
This band was a juggernaut at this point and why they just didn't keep Wayne Krantz for the 2006 Steely Dan tour is beyond me. Yes, 3 guitar players. Why not? If you think Mis'ry & the Blues was tight in Los Angeles, just check this version out. Brite Nite Gown is just hideously m*ther f*cking bad ass. Black Friday is "black" because of the scorched earth policy from Herington & Krantz. Again if you are not in a place where you can crank this recording, don't bother. IGY is just like that old Maxell tape commercial with the dude in the chair and the lamp and his hair is being blown back.
Finally, posting these shows this summer all started with a private email from WombBoy speculating that when this band hit the west coast despite the tough night vocally in Oakland, that this band was now on fire and the tour should have continued. These last 2 Fagen solo shows finally prove that apotheosis right.
So Enjoy!
Dedicated to the late "Rajah oF Erase". This is the last Donald Fagen solo show and sadly David's last Donald Fagen solo show. RIP
-Lurker Ray
