Notes: Check out the samples first before downloading. Recorded from Pit section C row D. This isn't as good of a recording as I was hoping to get, but it's better than nothing. I was fourth row center which isn't the best spot for great sound, but I went for the super close up view this time. The sound got better as the show went along. At first, I was getting a direct blast from Dwight's amp when he was playing electric guitar, so it was mostly that and vocals. After a bit, the mix got a lot better, especially when he was on acoustic guitar. Sometimes that's the trade off for being so close to the stage. Normally I'm picking a seat based on getting the best sound, but sometimes my priority is getting closer to the stage. On those occasions I'll just roll the dice and hope the sound is great. It was a Saturday night with a lively crowd, but they didn't interfere with the recording. Some clapping and singing nearby, but I can tolerate that.
Dwight told stories about his time growing up in the area and played "Hang on Sloopy" because of its local connection and since it's the unofficial Ohio State University song. I'm not the biggest country fan, but I just love Dwight's sound. I plan to catch him and ZZ Top on tour in April and will be in a spot to capture a more balanced sound. Enjoy!
