Versions seeded history summary:
February 17, 2007: This recording/version first seeded to dime by Kovinis
November 18, 2007: Fresh transfer upgrade of only 1 track: "Circle In The Square" seeded to
dime by Kovinis (see notes below for explanation)
February 21, 2010: New transfer of "Circle In The Square" combined with the other tracks from
the first transfer (but maybe missing Fancy Free if the description on
dime's history is accurate?) seeded to dime by Kovinis
April 19, 2025: michaelmee seeded the first 4 tracks of this version from his CD rip of the
original version
Kovinis (taper) notes from February 2007:
Although this recording has it's flaws, I decided I would put it up for any diehard Elvin
Jones and Jan Hammer fans out there. There is some hiss and the reel for disc 2 fades in
and out throughout the first half of the 36 minute track. I believe this is probably the
only source of this particular concert. I was 15 at the time and walked up to Elvin with
one of those old monster Wollensak reel-to-reels. I asked him if I could record the concert.
Not only did he say OK, but he placed the single mic on the stage between the band! I wish
this concert had taken place about a month later because I was finally able to save up
enough money with my paper route to buy a Tandberg 64X and 2 Sony mics. Oh well. I did
record Elvin off the FM with the Tandberg later that year. That recording was put up by
"mr_mags" awhile back.
Kovinis (taper) notes from November 2007:
I originally transferred the original tapes with an older Pioneer RT-909. Since then, I
have bought 2 superior units and have had them both completely rebuilt with new heads, pinch
rollers, belt, etc. I recently re-transferred disc 2 that had a lot of fading in and out,
and the results of the new transfer are a much improved sound with very little of the fade
problem. Although I re-transferred the complete concert, I found that the only major
improvement worth sharing was Disc 2.
April 2025 notes:
The purpose of this torrent is to add in the missing final two tracks from michaelmee's
torrent. I took the first four songs directly from that torrent, and added in the final
two tracks that agalli sent me from his CDRs. I think agalli only has the original
transfer because the brief "fading in and out" is quite evident on "Circle in the Square".
However, Kovinis hasn't logged into dime for about a year now so this version will have to
do for now. Dimers, keep an eye out for the upgraded "Circle in the Square" - it's out
there somewhere. Oh well - the fading isn't that bad. This just has added CDR generations
compared to the original seed, but no edits.
