40 years on ...................
a day late because of a family wedding and Mrs. Sulky's birthday -sorry!
Elvis finishes his "Texan leg" of the tour at the Wintergarden in Dallas ( all one word unlike the titles I've used for the torrent and text) and the audience definitely sounds like the most lively of the three gigs played. After the familiar strains of "Accidents Will Happen", Steve throws the theme from the TV series "Dallas" into the introduction to "Green Shirt". At the end of this Elvis again refers to the Texan tour and then says they'll play some songs from the new album "Imperial Bedroom" and a cheer comes from the audience and he seems surprised and says "You got it already!" A track less frequently played from this is "You Little Fool" ( a classic imho) and appears early on but unfortunately Elvis fluffs the first words and only captures it after several bars of ho-humming ! Another tracks from "IB", "Kid About It" struck me as one of those complete band performances where everything is perfectly executed in perfect synchronisation from The Attractions. There is a tape flip and glitch at the start of "Temptation" . Elvis compares the audience reaction before the encores saying the Dallas crowd were ahead of Houston and just one behind Austin to incite even greater response but I have to say, this recording definitely makes the Dallas crowd sound the most enthused. This leads to a fast rendition of "(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes" before "Two Steps From The Blues" . This long set (33 songs) ends with a passionate "Radio Radio" and then "Big Sister's Clothes" acting like a lesson in doom just as "Night Rally" was used in the 1978 tours.
This recording came across the Atlantic in the early 80s and needed to be tweaked up in pitch, unlike most that needed slowing down .
