After the excitement of three Texan gigs, I wondered whether the Attractions would take their collective feet off the pedals but this rather fine recording seems to show them at their collective best. there are a lot of highlights on this particular recording and I've enjoyed working on this most of all the shows I've covered so far. It doesn't appear on the Dime database ( thanks to Jeff who helped me find my way to this precious resource!) which seems really surprising to me having found it such a delight. Of course, you'll probably all disagree with me but here goes .
The first opening has a glitch in it ("Accidents Will Happen") but the clarity of the recording helps make this a delight particularly if you're a Steve Nieve fan as his playing sparkles throughout the gig, ranging from the Honky Tonk tinkling in "Tonight The Bottle Let Me Down" through to the grandiose operatic statements in "And In Every Home", the smoky atmospherics of "The Long Honeymoon" and the soul stomp on "From Head To Toe". There's a tape flip I would suppose at the end of "Kid About It" and a glitch in the following "Temptation" Elvis also parades his fine singing, as noticed in the reviews available from the Elvis Costello wiki for this gig at _

and his singing is particularly fine in the slower numbers and in his improvised "skat" vocals in the end of "Alison - One Day I Shall be Singing" piece.
The first encore starts with Elvis introducing "Red Shoes" as a song written about 1903 -" -a random date - and his singing reaches similar peaks in "Almost Blue" where Bruce's bass sounds perfectly balanced and complimentary to the gentle brushwork of Pete and Steve's sophisticated accompaniment. There is a further jump at the start of "Peace, Love And Understanding" and Steve plays a strange misplaced chord (surely not) at the start of "Shipbuilding" . "Big Sister's Clothes" wraps up the gig but there is a play out of programmed music from Steve's synthesiser which would be increasingly used during the following gigs. I really like this recording, many thanks to whoever first recorded this - I salute you!
