NOTES:

This was my fifth time seeing Foo Fighters I think? It was the second time I saw them at Bottlerock, having previously seen them headline (and recorded them) back in 2021. That was the last show of theirs I saw where Taylor Hawkins was still with us/them. Well fast forward almost 5 years, and a lot has changed, but what hasn't is that the Foo's are still headlining, sounding bigger, better, and stronger than ever. I definitely prefer this set over the performance I saw in 2021. The setlist here was absolutely amazing.

Let's get the big elephant, song wise, out of the way immediately. They covered "Jesus Wants Me for A Sunbeam"! I saw a roadie bringing out an accordion on stage, but I surely didn't expect what I heard next. And obviously, it's a Vaselines cover, but I (and I'm sure many others) like to think it was Dave and the band throwing a nod and a small tribute to Kurt/Nirvana too. So cool to hear. I was losing my mind.

Another thing to note: they played 4, yes FOUR, songs off their first record—holy crap! Granted none of them were "Good Grief" (not that I expected that), but I finally, after all these years, got to hear "Exhausted" live and I can rest easy now. Easily one of my favorite songs ever, and it sounded good this night, I was almost in tears. I know they had been playing it at shows with Ilan recently, but wasn't sure it'd make the cut at a festival.

And speaking of Ilan, maybe I'm in the minority here, but I prefer him over Josh Freese, at least for this band/style/music. Nothing against Josh—I'm a huge Devo fan (I have the Energy Dome tattooed on me for crying out loud)—but Ilan just fits better here, and I think the band is happier. That's my takeaway at least.

I was front row for this performance, on the rail, and for all the previous performances at this stage throughout the day. That wasn't the original plan, but when I was 4th in line at 8 AM, it started to dawn on me that I had a good chance of getting front row if I wanted it. I was talking to some girl in line who was a big AJR fan and she wanted front row, but was worried she wouldn't be fast enough to get a spot with all the others in front of us. And yes, there were people cutting in line before the gates opened, and they were letting VIP people in first, so it was then that I decided I would help the team out (of the people I was hanging out in line with) and run to the rail for them (I was surely faster than the older folks in front of us). So as soon as I got through security, I booked it to the main stage, ignoring the cries of some old lady worker telling me to walk (pfft, yeah right Grandma).

I got to the corner rail spot in front of almost everyone and secured some spots. It filled up rather quickly after that, and it was then I realized that I had a prime spot for LCD and Foo's that night. Leaving this spot to see Bush at the second stage and then coming back just wasn't in the cards (plus I was seeing Bush at the after show on Sunday night anyway), so I just stuck it out at the front row spot for the entire day in the hot sun with one bottle of water.

By the time Foo's were playing, we had been standing there for almost 10+ hours, and we were starving. In front of us was a small barricade of the elite Platinum Plus wristband holders: some with rainbow colored hair, some wearing ketchup and mustard bottle printed robes (not joking), and those with the sought after Bottlerock denim jackets. They seemed very elite. They had prime real estate in front of our railing, and had free drinks and food all day long with waiters taking their orders and serving them (I saw them handing out some nice cash tips). Well the reason I say all this is that when Dave started playing "Aurora", these folks had recently had some pizza delivered to them from Filipe's Pizza there in town, and some of them were eating half a slice and then throwing the rest away. I watched all this while my stomach was scratching and screaming out at me. Well this one guy in that viewing area looked at all of us starving GA folks, whispered something to the concierge lady who was manning the viewing area entrance, and then grabbed the pizza boxes, and started handing out all the remaining slices (which were quite a bit) to all of us in the front row. It was such an act of kindness, I think all of us were almost brought to tears. It was the first thing many of us had eaten all day. I can remember, while Dave was playing "Aurora" up on stage, looking down the rail/front row and just seeing a bunch of us with pizza slices in our hands and smiles on our faces. I can't recall a time when I felt much happier. I just wanted to share that story, because that's one moment/memory I'll always have with me regarding this show. Shoutout to that kind man <3

Anyway, I've rambled on long enough yet again. Enjoy the recording. It was a great set, filled with plenty of my favorites, some funny Dave banter, some nice tributes and more. Can't ask for a better headlining experience I don't think. It was amazing. Enjoy.

Peace <3
