Description:
The Grandmothers Of Invention – Live at the Patti Pavilion Swansea S. Wales 1998
This unofficial release is an ambitious prosumer concert documentary featuring the band The Grandmothers Of Invention, composed of former members of Frank Zappa’s legendary Mothers of Invention. Capturing their 1998 performance in Swansea, Wales, the recording clearly stands out from ordinary fan bootlegs thanks to its high-quality, semi-professional production approach.
The video opens with a stylized introduction reminiscent of an official retail DVD, introducing the musicians by name while stage setup and soundcheck preparations unfold in the background. Notably, Don Preston is credited despite being absent, whereas Steve B. Roney is omitted from the intro entirely, despite performing.
Rather than being a mere string of live performances, the film is enhanced by recurring interludes between songs. Occasional glimpses into the backstage area and footage from the Patti Pavilion lobby give the release the authentic feel of a tour diary and an intimate behind-the-scenes documentary.
