having seen this show at end of the road (but not taped as the weather was so atrocious), mrs rad and i are wide-eyed with anticipation for the indoor bash
what we haven't realised is that the EOTR set was only the first half (minus 'painting box' and 'empty pocket blues', in fact) - plus mike's four songs
so this afternoon's much expanded version is one delight after another
most of the vast line up were not yet born during the ISB's heyday
but this strange and sui generis music has clearly sent its mycorrhizal tendrils down through the ages to infect the consciousness of anyone drawn to the uniquely bizarre
and they do it more than proud
it doesn't hurt that junior brother's rollercoaster vocal stylings are a dead ringer for robin williamson's
albeit with an irish brogue in place of a scottish burr
and with robin unwilling to revisit the past, rose simpson lost to politics, and licorice mckechnie lost altogether, it's left to mike heron to represent the original
in the end, mike is a lot less focussed than he was at EOTR
he's clearly delighted by what's happening - but georgia has a lot to do to quell his peripatetic impulses!
though perhaps that's just the irrepressible ISB spirit insisting on turning over the tables of anything resembling order!
there are many opportunities tonight, in fact, to marvel at quite how spectacularly WEIRD the ISB were
and at just how much that is exactly what these unsettling times require
the daily tumult of dismay does its devious work to dishearten us hippies
but all that seems a long way off in the sea of grins lighting up the QEH tonight
a solid reminder that, no matter what
the pure light within us
will guide us
all the way on
enjoy
