The Mountain Aire Music Festival ran from 1974 to 1987, held annually at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds. It was originally created by promoter Bill Barr and later supported by Bill Graham, and it became one of Northern Californias most beloved outdoor rock events running from 1974 to 1987.

Jackson Brownes 1978 Mountain Aire performance is remembered as one of the signature moments of the festivals classic-rock era. He appeared June 10-11, 1978 at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds in Angels Camp, California, sharing the bill with Jimmy Buffett and Warren Zevon a powerhouse trio of West Coast singer-songwriters.

Anyone who has followed my uploads already knows I have a bit of an obsession with the 19771978 tour. For me, its Jacksons sweet spot one of the truly great runs of the 1970s.

For years, a solid copy of this show was difficult to find. Before this edition, I had two other copies, each with its own set of difficult issues, enough that I ultimately decided against releasing either one.

Finally, copy #3 coming from "lapsteelcate" a collector from back in the snail mail trading days gave me something worth working with. The hiss level was manageable during mastering and after some careful attention, I think the results stand as an excellent addition to this remarkable tour.

The performance itself is top-tier, coming just before a six-week break in the tour, and it shows. There are plenty of highlights here, including a rare full-band rendition of the country arrangement of Here Come Those Tears Again

There are a number of folks who were instrumental in getting this into the collectors community.

First and foremost, a big thanks to lapsteelcate for reaching out and trusting me with her deep archives. Stay tuned there are more uncirculated shows on the way.

Thanks to dime member vinegarjoe for putting Cate and I in contact and of course we are always grateful to Goody, who once again handled pitch duties with his usual steady, masterful hand, going the extra mile to tame some of the wow and flutter, one of the issues in the past that kept me from releasing either of the first two copies.
