JoeRay gives us details and thoughts around taping this excellent show:
*****************************************************
During the summer of 1974, I was first introduced to Jesse Colin Young while he was opening for CSNY on their mega tour. I was excited from the moment I heard he was headlining at the Allen Theater in Cleveland, Ohio. I secured center seats in the fifth row for my family and my girlfriend, Patty.
From the very start of the concert, we were captivated by his mesmerizing performancehis soulful songs and compelling storytelling instantly drawing us in. That evening turned out to be one of his longest headline shows, featuring an impressive array of new songs from his album Songbird.
While I had always admired his work on Youngblood Songs, that night Jesse surpassed all expectations. Tracks like "SONGBIRD," "SONG FOR JULI," "MORNING SUN," "BEFORE YOU CAME," and "RIDGETOP" left both the audience and me in awe. His ability to evoke the spirit of wild places and untamed emotions was a testament to his exceptional talent.
A few years later, I had the pleasure of seeing him again at the MUSE concerts in New York City and Washington, D.C. Soon after, he returned to his solo roots, continuing to deliver performances marked by his outstanding tenor vocals and masterful guitar work.
Jesse passed away March 16th, 2025 at age 83. Thank you Jesse for so many years of wonderful songs and performances. Peace My Friend...
I recorded the concert using an AKG D1000E microphone, a Sony cassette recorder and Memorex 120 tape.
