An Abercrombie Quartet show with Michael Brecker, Peter Erskine, and Marc Johnson was just recently shared. Here's Abercrombie again in this format over 25 years after that one. Abercrombie had done an album recorded in the Fall of 2011 with Joe Lovano and this rhythm section called Within A Song. The album was released in 2012, and for this date, Billy Drewes replaced Lovano on sax. Drewes has always struck me as a great player, who I haven't heard enough of. He'd recorded with Lyle Mays, Leni Stern, Bill Frisell, and others, but I don't think anything ever came out under his own name. I was happy to hear him on this date filling Lovano's shoes from the recording. All of the songs played here are on Within A Song.
I didn't find this in the dimebot archive, and it isn't on many etree lists, so I can't say for sure where I got it, but many thanks to whoever made it available to me. I did track it down to something that was broadcast over Austria's ORF. Any confusion with the date is down to the performance coming from November, 2012, but the broadcast date being January, 2013. I did search for this show using each date, but neither showed up in the archive.
Prior to this share, the show has been retracked in Audacity. The German language DJ broadcast intro is still there as track 5, where it now precedes the German language DJ outro. This share starts with the first musical performance, Interplay. Tracks 3 and 4 had once been a lengthy single track, and they'll now seamlessly go one into the next with the break between them coming at an appropriate point in a Joey Baron solo.
Many thanks to whoever had gotten this show to me, and by whatever means it came across. If this is somehow new to DIME, here's hoping people will all like what they hear. Samples below will give a good indication of what to expect.
