This was the first of a 2-night stay in Edinburgh for the 1999 "Flux Festival" (part of the Edinburgh International Arts Festival). The Queen's Hall is a relativley small venue (holding ~ 900) where John had previously played in 1992. Sadly I didn't get as good a seat this time, and ended up in the balcony. But the recording turned out ok.
The show started with John noodling away at an odd-looking keyboard device at stage right while reciting Dylan Thomas poems. I believe that the first 2 of these are unique to this concert. He then moved on to the more conventional guitar/piano format for the remainder of the show. I think that the final encore was "Close Watch" but I didn't manage to record it.
After the show, I hung around (alone) at the stage door and was rewarded when John appeared (also alone), wearing a baseball cap and otherwise dressed pretty much like a tramp. He happily signed a few things for me and then climbed into a waiting minicab and raced off.
