Leo Kottke - Six & 12 String Acoustic Guitars, Vocals

OldNeumanntapr Notes;
This is my fourth time that I have seen Leo at the Lobero, and the fifth Kottke show that I have recorded. I love the theater because it is small and intimate and has wonderful acoustics and I've been recording there since early 1998. This show marks 40 years since I have been a taper and will probably be my last, as ticket prices are just too expensive and, thanks to the necessity of heightened security because of the ever increasing violence in our country, it's just not as much fun as it used to be. Plus, a lot of the artists that I like are old and dying off. I wish I would have recorded Leo Kottke earlier, but I didn't discover him until 2014. How we hadn't crossed paths before I don't know. I love to collect Leo's live shows. Every one of them is different, because of the wacky, rambling, non-sensical stories that he tells as he is tuning. I love his stories equally as much as his music. Another music collector said it best, "People have it all wrong. Leo is a very funny comedian who just happens to be a virtuoso guitarist!" When I play a Kottke live show when my wife and I are on a road trip and he gets into a long meandering story, my wife will frequently exclaim, "Get To The Point!!!" Ah, but the way I look at it the journey is equally as important as the destination! It really has been a Long Strange Trip throughout these past 40 years and I've been privileged to have seen and recorded some pretty amazing musical performances.
