After I started having issues with my CSBs, I went searching for something more consistent while they get repaired again. Big shout out to Gakables who was able to get me this pair of AAT853s on very short notice. I'm really happy with them! For the Deakin set I wasn't exactly sure the best way to mount them, and I walked in just as his set was starting, so I ended up just dangling them around my neck. The recording turned out alright, but I was talking quite a bit throughout the set and I'm not planning on posting that recording.
During intermission, I noticed a recorder out of the corner of my eye and went to go talk to the owner. Turns out sonictooth was at the show as well! so keep an eye for his recording. After almost a year of recordings and not seeing anyone else, I ran into to fellow tapers over the course of two days which was really awesome! I didn't have a lot of time to talk though, I had to go meet back up with my friends and figure out a better way to set up the microphones.
I'm very satisfied with the way this recording turned out considering it was my first time using these mics. I'm finding it very convenient not having to carry a battery box around, but I'm not quite used to not being able to turn my head as much as I was able to with the Binaural mics. There are a few moments where it's obvious I was turning my head, but for the most part there only slight changes in perspective that don't particularly affect how listenable this recording turned out. Every song in this set bled into the next, so to avoid losing anything I left a few spoken comments from my friends stay in the recording. They mostly take place during the transitions between songs, and I think there are four at most across the entirety of the set, so I don't think they end up affecting the quality. There was a little more talking during the encore break, so I did a fade out and fade in to remove the worst of it.
