There are several very good to excellent soundboard PMG recordings from 1981 and 82 which have made the rounds as ROIO's for years. Here's one that may still be new to a few people out there. It's not shown in the dimebot archive, and it also doesn't pop up in anyone's etree listings on that site. It does show up in Marc Morvan's PMDB. It definitely is from DC on a warm summer night, as you'll hear referenced in the stage intro before Phase Dance.
I got this via some digital file swapping done with Waterwheel a little while back, and he truly does have an amazing collection of music. Many thanks to him for his generosity in making this available to me. This is a typically great sounding PMG show from this time. It's a bit strange in that there's very little stage chatter from Pat beyond a "Thanks a lot" here and there. Count-ins at the start of songs are audible too in a few spots. Other than those things, it's all music. The only flaws are a cut as the guitar solo ends and piano solo starts on James, and then again for a few seconds about 2/3 of the way through Mars (Close to Home), and the fact that American Garage cuts a little over 2 minutes into the song (tempted to say that's a blessing, as that's one of my least favorite PMG songs).
This recording did run a bit sharp/fast, and a tool in Audacity was used to get it running "closer to home" (to steal a Lyle song title). What I'm getting at is that better software and skill sets might dial it in even better than I could with Audacity, but I can comfortably play along with a properly tuned guitar in the keys in which the songs should be heard and performed. Audacity was also used for tracking purposes, and to work around that cut referenced above in Mars. If this is as new to some, as I expect it may be, it'll be a nice addition to the PMG live collection. Enjoy!
