Here's the result of finding something on a shelf of old cd-r's that I hadn't even recalled having gotten once upon a time. Had I remembered it, it probably would've been shared to mark Mick Goodrick's passing back in 2022. He, of course, was a great player and educator at Berklee, and he and Pat had played together with Gary Burton's band in the mid 70's before Pat became one of the big names in Jazz and guitar playing. Mick Goodrick continued to record sporadically and gig with some people after the Burton days, but not nearly to the levels that Pat did. I guess it'd be fair to call him more of a "guitarist's guitarist", particularly relating to the influence and respect he held in the guitar community.
In this share, you'll hear an instance of the Metheny-Goodrick connection being rekindled in Boston near to the end of what had been a very busy year of PMG touring. I'm not sure whether there had been any particular context behind this show, and I also can't recall who I got it from (many thanks to them!). What you'll hear is a really high level version of "a couple of guys hanging out and playing guitar". My guess would be that this probably came from a DAT recorder, given the show date, but I can't be sure. It's a fine sounding show in front of a very respectful and appreciative audience. For what that's worth, the applause level makes it seem that the audience may have been on the small side. Whoever had burned this to disc had done that TAO, and the small gaps between songs were cleaned up in Audacity. It also seems that someone had faded applause after songs, so it's not possible to know if either player had addressed the audience at any time that evening. If anyone does know a bit more about the circumstances behind this show, please share that in the comments below.
The dimebot archive didn't show this being here before, but that might be wrong. It's also not seen in many etree collection, so my hope is that some folks might be pleased to finally hear something pretty special that had been languishing on a shelf of forgotten cd-r's until a day or two ago (perhaps there's a lesson there for more of us to take a look and see what we might've forgotten along the way that could now spark new interest). Enjoy!
