This is an excellent audience capture from the summer of 2003. This apparently had been billed as the Pat Metheny Quartet. Pat was doing a lot of "extracurricular" things away from the Pat Metheny Group that year, and several things from festival appearances that summer with many different configurations have circulated. The Pat Metheny Trio with Christian McBride and Antonio Sanchez did go on to play a lot of gigs later that summer and into the Fall of 2003, but this was the one and only gig from 2003 that included Michael Brecker (thanks to Marc Morvan's PMDB for that info). This came to me on DIME at one time or another, and the most recent share shown in the dimebot archive seems to have been from rlouk in 2011. Thanks to whoever had recorded the date, and to whoever made it available when I grabbed it.
I've seen this listed as a soundboard, but it isn't. There is definitely some audience chatter picked up at times. Given the date of the show, my guess would be that it came from DAT with very good mics. There is also a video grab from this same location with a different program and slightly different personnel dating to 2000, and it appears that show and this have sometimes been confused. Regardless, this show with Brecker is a terrific audience capture. The only minor flaw is that Brecker's sax is slightly lower in volume at times than it probably was from the stage. Perhaps that has something to do with the recorder's location. An EQ tool in Audacity was lightly applied to try to boost Brecker's level a little bit. Check the samples below to hear what you'll be getting in this share.
