NOTES:
I was first made aware of Pedal Steel Noah, like most people I assume, through Instagram. A good friend of mine would constantly send me reels of his covers (usually of 80's hits/classics, that I love), and he would always have his dog sitting near his Pedal Guitar in all the videos, which sure didn't hurt things.
Flash forward to the final night of SXSW 2026 and I saw that he was on the lineup/bill at The 13th Floor, alongside bands like Water Damage and Karma Sheen, so it became a no brainer that this is where I was going to end my SXSW 2026 adventures. And Noah, and his band, did not disappoint. I knew we were going to get some killer covers, but starting off with Modest Mouse's "Dramamine" right off the bat? That blew me away. And then to segue right into Joy Division's "Transmission" (the highlight of the entire set)? It was unreal.
It sounded so damn good in that venue too. The small cramped stage and the PA hanging from the ceiling, with some cobwebs acting as decor, didn't really give me the best of hopes, but it sounded so loud and crisp, and that really shined through with this performance. I think the recording sounds great.
On top of some covers, which also included Tears for Fears and even Radiohead, he also played a couple of originals, which was really cool to hear. This kid has extreme talent, and with a backing band—which he doesn't always have/showcase on his Instagram reels—it just sounded amazing. 10/10. A must see act for anyone in Austin. I only hope I can see him again at another SXSW event in the future. Here's hoping.
