(It's not clear to me that this setlist is original to the DAT tree, or accurate. The SHNs contain a folder called SantanaExtra which includes a track which was not original to the tree, and is supposed to be included between tracks 3 and 4. That would account for the extra track in the info file. However, the rest of the tracking does not make sense. I'll post a revised info file if I learn more at www.tapetrader.com/shn, ed.)
Notes on the Bands:
For those of you who are new to this music, here are some facts on the bands that you might or might not be familiar with:
* 13th Floor Elevators: a band from Texas with a big Bay Area following.
Rocky Erikson was their leader and has achieved cult status these days.
* Captain Beefhart: Ry Cooder had already left the band by the time this
tape was made.
* Mother Earth: their female singer was Tracy Nelson who still can belt
out the blues these days. Check out her new CD.
* Oxford Circle: don't know much about them except that they were on a
lot of early posters including the "Skull and Roses" poster.
* The Sons of Adam: an LA band on many early Avalon posters.
* The Great Society: Grace Slick's original band.
* The Charlatans: one of the most important bands of that era, but
forgotten by history.
* Cream: we included them because they influenced so many bands after
their Fillmore appearances.
* Steve Miller Blues Band: this is the original band with Boz Scaggs.
* Quicksilver: this is the 4 man band not the original band with Jim
Murray.
* The Daily Flash: another L.A. band that appeared on many early Avalon
posters.
* Country Joe & The Fish Jam: check Out Bill Graham talking to the crowd.

This letter is to accompany the tapes that make up the tree called San Franciscan Nights. Its purpose is to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Hell's Honkie's Tape Club. Please copy this letter so it accompany the tapes for people further down the tree. It is our expressed desire to share this music with everybody, and it is our hope you will SHARE
this with other people. That means don't trade it or ask for any 2 for 1's trades that some people think is ethical. Just share it!
The other important thing is that at least for the first time you hear the tapes go in the order of the tape number rather than skipping around. We spent a lot of time figuring out what band should go after what band, so at least for the first time listen to it in order. After that you're on your own. Oh yes, the most important thing of all: PLAY IT LOUD!!
The bands played loud and that's the way it should be heard.
Hell's Honkie's Tape Club's 25th
"8 hours of my favorite tape filler from that golden period of San Francisco music: 1966-1970; This music is not around in complete sets and I have no idea what generation the tapes are. It's simply wonderful filler from some of my old reels. The quality is generally very good and this is a long overdue representation of the old ballroom scene"

This is the extra song of the Santana material for the SF Nights cdr tree.
If added after the original first three tracks on cdr#8, you will have
17:38 extra material (one long song, incomplete, fades out at the end).
