We continue our journey of releases featuring the archives of a dedicated West Coast taper and collector who passed away a few years ago. Prior to his passing, he meticulously transferred his extensive archive onto CDR's and entrusted them to a close friend. This friend, a stalwart of the Bay Area music scene for over five decades, understands the importance of sharing these historic shows with the collector's community.

Our first 1988 show and a tour with Wayne Shorter I was hoping would produce some upgrades. I would consider this a modest upgrade of the opening night of the tour at The Fillmore in San Francisco.

Many versions I've seen of this performance state that John Lee Hooker joined the band for "The Healer," but after listening to the introduction, I'm not convinced he ever actually made it onstage. Carlos introduces Hooker, and the band plays a brief 17-second blues vamp, apparently while waiting for him to appear. Carlos then mentions that "The Healer" will be featured on Hooker's upcoming release. After that, it sounds like he calls out for John off mic then saying "...he'll be right with us, I'm not kidding." He then adds, "...we're going to do it for him anyway, it goes something like this," and the band launches into the instrumental version of the song.

We'll have more 1988 shows to share, SB's and audience captures that don't appear to circulate in the torrent era.

We owe a debt of gratitude to the anonymous collector (R.I.P.) and his motivated friend, who recognized the importance of preserving these historically significant shows before they were lost forever.
