Comments:

1 - HELP!! If you have any uncirculated SPIRIT shows, or better quality FM
broadcasts than what's been posted here before, please share them. If you
know anybody who has shows that fit this category that aren't on DIME, please
dub off their stuff and share it. I'm trying to write a book on SPIRIT and need
all the information I can get. I have a database of over 1500 gigs 1967-1996, and
want to find as much information as I can to add to it. If you have any memories
of where you saw SPIRIT, the more specific the better (venue, city, date, supporting
bands, etc.), I'd love to know that as well. Please leave that in the comments
section or PM me. Thank you!

2 - Show description & comments follow:

After SPIRIT broke up in May 1979, Randy California embarked on a solo career, heading
to the UK, where he toured opening for Ian Gillan in October 1979. His band was Steve
"Liberty" Loria on bass, and Jack Willoughby (former SPIRIT roadie) on drums. Despite
being well received and recording demos, no record deal could be secured.

While Randy was in the UK, he received a petition of thousands of signatures to release
the 1973 POTATOLAND album project that had been shelved by CBS/Epic. With that mandate
he reformed SPIRIT, and secured record deals with Beggars Banquet, Rhino and Line Records
to release a revamped version of POTATOLAND in the spring of 1981.

In late October 1980, the reformed SPIRIT began playing gigs with much new material. Some
of the new songs here would eventually end up on Randy's solo album, EURO-AMERICAN, which
was released in May 1982. There were some others such as "Hungry Driver", "Got The Kind Of
Love", and "Someone To Love" that didn't make it beyond the late 1980 tour. In my opinion,
"Hungry Driver" was a winner, and a personal favorite of the many great SPIRIT songs that never
made it out in the bands lifetime.

This is a nice recording, especially since it was likely done on a cheap cassette recorder. There are
a very few places where you can hear the limiter in the cassette deck struggling not to distort, but
they are minor. Enjoy!
