::: VG+ very steady mono AUD. Check samples for terminatation, inticement, momentary pleasance.
::: Warts: Dropouts&dullspots repaired but surely missed a few. Some overall light crunchy distortion thruout (but not too bad!) w/a few very brief overloaded bits (bass distortion). Some rushing hiss so volume lowered 'tween songs. #15 1st 10secs distorted (master record level too high). No NR artifacts heard on this Mk3 except on a few secs of talk w/already hollow sound.
::: COMPARISON CLAUSE: This is the Mk2 NO EQor NR DimeTravel remaster. "Mk1"mossa original files were never DIMED.
::: CONTRAST CLAUSE: This is the Mk2 NO EQor NR remaster. The better sounding Mk3 with EQ+lite NR is available elsewhere.
::: Unless in the pre-DIMEbot days of EZTree, this show has not been on DIME prior to July 2021.
::: The John Kay Band opened up for Steppenwolf on this tour - some members were in both groups.
::: This was billed as the final Steppenwolf tour, which John confirms in the John Kay Band intro.
::: Steppenwolf broke up after this tour & a somewhat checkered history evolved over the next 2 years.
::: POSTER&many B&W gig photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/khiltscher/albums/72157613274332423/
::: 6th studio LP"For Ladies Only"still their most recent. Recorded Nov'70-May'71 &issued Nov.71.
::: Steppenwolf songs here from #1LP(15/27/30) #2LP (21/28) "Monster"(25) "7"(19) "For Ladies Only"(17/23).
::: Kay's 1st solo LP"Forgotten Songs&Unsung Heroes"issued before this tour in '72 (5of9 trax played here).
::: "Sing With The Children"appeared in '73 on Kay's solo LP, "My Sportin' Life".
::: "Labor Of Love"unissued 'til a studio out appeared on"Steppenwolf At 50"box set in 2018.
::: Online notes(&mossa's notes as a result)say Kay played AFTER Steppenwolf here but seems untrue as per Kay's patter.
::: Aside from John Kay 1973-06-08 Santa Monica ABC-TV"In Concert"3 trax (promoting his new solo"Sportin' Life"LP), this is the first-ever John Kay Band 1972/73 live set to surface. There are surely more out there. I do have a tape in hiding at the moment that says John Kay 1973 BBC (probably OGWT&maybe"In Concert"replayas the BBC sometimes did in that era). Also live'72"Movin' On"on"Rollin' On The River"TV show on lo-fiTube. Does anyone have any other live '72/73 recordings they could share?

Recording Information ::: unknown mono tape recorder/microphone -> master tape -> 1st generation tape -> mossa's 2nd generation cassette -> unknown digitization method (2021-04-xx) 44.1/16 files -> flacs.

Remastering 2021-07-xx ::: 2nd generation flacs -> Audacity [normalisation to remove DC offset (NOT to normalize volume), channel/phase alignment, fades, manual one-at-a-time glitch, bump, clap, pop, click, dropout & dullspot repairs, volume adjustments, First Set ::: #01-14 averaged -0.7 & #15-30 OK & #31 -0.92% (speed) fixes with single passes after frequency analysis & with CD pitch verification, lite differential equalisation & 50KHz notch, lite noise reduction] -> CD Wave (track splits) -> 48kHz/24bit flacs (Trader's Little Helper) -> yr ears. Freed 2021-07-xx. (NOTE: small file sizes due to: mono 2 channels w/VERY low KHz in each, so combined to save on work - NOT recommended unless channels roughly same KHz & are carefully lined up first, & don't need some other type of cross-patching aside from dullspots. Kay set looked much better than Steppenwolf but actually had little/no actual additional music signal).

John Kay Band line-up ::: John Kay (born "Joachim Fritz Krauledat") - harmonica, vocals, acoustic&electric guitars // Kent Henry Plischke (†R.I.P. 2009†) - electric guitar // Goldy McJohn OR Hugh Sullivan - keyboards // George Michael Biondo - electric bass, vocals // Pentti "Whitey" Glan (†R.I.P. 2017†) - drums, percussion.

Steppenwolf line-up ::: John Kay (born "Joachim Fritz Krauledat") - electric guitar, harmonica, lead vocals // Kent Henry Plischke (†R.I.P. 2009†) - electric guitar // Goldy McJohn (born "John Raymond Goadsby" †R.I.P. 2017†) - keyboards // George Michael Biondo - electric bass, vocals(?) // Gerald Michael "Jerry" Edmonton (born "Gerald McCrohan" †R.I.P. 1993†) - drums, percussion, vocals.

Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.

DimeTravel 841 ::: Thanks to the original taper & traders! MANY thanks to DIMER mossa for the transfer&files! Sincere thanks to whomever uploads this for me. ::: Corrections welcome ::: Interesting doing this one back to back with the Frankfurt '69 & the Rochester '70 shows. The band had really changed. I think they are sorely missing the lead guitar style of Larry Byrom, but overall, the sound is fairly impressive, chunky & hypnotic, tho' the songwriting has taken a serious hit. Henry plays some lovely (tasty!), subtle, slide guitar, but some signature Steppenwolf heavy leads are missing. Gotta think that even with all the multi-millions in sales&the attention, that between band member changes & release pace for LPs, things seemed somewhat off. Here they are touring almost a year after their last album release ("For Ladies Only"), for which recording had begun almost 2 YEARS before this gig. This is after a PROLIFIC release schedule, having released 7 albums (+the live "Early Steppenwolf"album) between Jan'68&Nov'71. Prolific is relative, the band was apparently forced by contract to produce 2 NEW LPs PER YEAR! While I enjoy a number of songs on the 1st John Kay solo LP, I think the presentation of the songs here, though somewhat restrained & nowhere near the quality of the album, are actually more solid. I do like Patrick Sky & the version of "Many A Mile" is fine, but it's too bad there isn't a live version of the other folk song he covered on the album, "Bold Marauder" by Richard Fariña - one of the greats. Listen, enjoy, show appreciation, share, give, spread peace. Yrs truly, Knees
