Notes:
Stone Temple Pilots performing their 2nd album, "Purple" front to back &
ONLY on this tour was the draw for me. I caught STP this past July playing
The Ohio State Fair (prior to this tour) and it was a basic hit heavy set,
which was fine. The show was good, the playing was good, but I was bummed
we werent included on this tour. So, I made the decision to drive the 130
miles north to Cuyahoga Falls to see this once in a lifetime show. Out of
all the important rock albums in my life, "Purple" would be in my top 3.
I remember at the age of 13, it was the first album I bought on the day of
release!! This was already after purchasing "The Crow" soundtrack 2 months
prior JUST to have "Big Empty" on CD. They were without question my favorite
band next to Nirvana at the time. With 1992's "Core", they helped shape my
interest in rock n' roll and for that reason alone, I will forever cherish
these albums and their music. So, hearing these cuts (7 or 8 which are rarely
played) in the album's order was a dream. "Kitchenware & Candybars" gave me
pure goosebumps!! Jeff did a tremendous job singing these songs and Robert,
Dean and Eric all looked very happy together. I wish Scott was still here,
but I'm grateful we can still see 3 of the 4 playing the music all of these
years later. Recording went well, I had 2 drunk "whoo!!" girls (one in the
row in front and one behind me), but with the magic of iZotope RX7, they
are now almost completely inaudible. Just took a few hours of painstaking
work to get this to sound as good as it could. For some reason, Live had
slightly better sound, but STP still turned out good to great. Jeff's
vocals were slightly high in the mix, but its not too distracting. This
was a pavilion only show, no lawn tickets were available for purchase.
One final thought: while looking around during "Purple", 85% of the fans
in attendance only knew the singles. I can see why they stick to the
greatest hits on most tours, thankful we got this, though.
Co-headline with Live [recorded] and opener, Soul Asylum [not recorded].
