This recording seems chronologically likely to be the first circulating live show of the New Lifetime. Tony had tried some studio sessions with Holdsworth, Jack Bruce, Webster Lewis, and Tequila Logan. Those demos circulate as the "Stockholm Sessions". For this live show, there's no way to vouch for Chicago as the actual location, and no idea of the date, beyond the fact that the band is playing Urchins from Tony's Ego album that came out in 1971 or 72. It doesn't seem that tune stayed in the repertoire for the New Lifetime once they recorded and started to tour Believe It. On the matter of Urchins, it cuts after an introductory solo from Tony and something from Alan Pasqua. Guitar can't be heard very much on it at all, so I'm wondering if it might've been tacked on to this from elsewhere, and having listened to Urchins from Ego, it's not even totally apparent that what's played is that song. It does definitely seem to be Tony and Pasqua though.
This is a decent listen given the time when it was recorded. Guessing that this is an audience recording, and for the time and the volume of the group, I'd say it's a pretty good one that does run close to the correct pitch/speed. Any info regarding more specific details would certainly be appreciated. I'd shared this in 2017, and the archive shows it being here before that via matthughen in 2012. This did come to me in a cd-r trade, so I'm not sure if the 2012 share was any better sounding than this. Speaking of sound, Audacity tools to tweak things via EQ/Mastering were applied to this share to try to separate instruments out from each other a little better than they had one been. Samples will show these kinds of differences between the 2017 share and this, but it's still going to be a far from pristine, but definitely listenable show from this group.
