Here's another POV tour stop in NYC at the scene of many fine Utopia shows through the years by a band operating under that banner. I went to this show with my wife, and this was the night of her 29th birthday. I got my copy of this show from Warren who was responsible for the latter years of the Todd boot page that's under the umbrella of the TR Connection. He'd warned me that it wasn't a very good sounding show, but I didn't care, I was there on a personally memorable day!
This tour was a double bill of Utopia and The Tubes (Todd had produced their Love Bomb album they were showcasing). Many folks might know that, but that point is being added in to explain how/why Todd might be playing with them on Baba O'Riley. I saw this double bill in Utica, NY too a few nights away from Radio City, and Todd didn't join them there. Not sure how often that might've happened, but the taper in NYC saw fit to include Baba in with their share of the Utopia set. Many thanks to them, whoever they might've been.
Having just given the taper their props, Warren was not far off in his SQ assessment. There have been fine grabs of shows at Radio City, but this one came over as pretty boomy with a fair amount of audience chatter. No idea at all about taping location or equipment that might've been used, but there was a fade at the end of Mystified and a fade in at the start of Road that regrettably missed a little of the start and I'm guessing a little under 45 minutes in that must've been due to a tape flip at that point. Viewing the open files, the show seemed almost brickwalled.
For this share, I will say it's all been improved a bit thanks to the tools in Audacity. Various things were experimented with, and then eventually done via EQ and Mastering to get it sounding as you'll now hear it. The samples below will give a good idea of what to expect, and the music was loud enough that the audience chatter is generally only there intrusively between songs. Floating had requested some Oblivion and POV era Utopia shows, and this is the last of them that I'll be able to share. That said, there is supposedly a sbd from a little later on in this tour from California. If anyone ever comes across that, please do share it.
