the news of wizz's passing hit me hard yesterday
just two months ago, we were watching what was billed as his last ever show
but i didn't believe it for a moment
wizz'll keep on playing forever
but here we are without him
no more on stage banter with simeon
no more self-deprecating smirks and shrugs
no more boundless generosity to other songwriters
no more fretboard wiz(z)ardry
what an unalloyed joy he was
and how poorer we are for his departure
i have three shows to share as some kind of meagre tribute
including that final hurrah
here's the first - wizz occasionally bemoaning his faltering voice
but he sounds grand to me
impossibly so, knowing we'll not hear him again
enjoy
