and so we come to the end

this turned out to be wizz's final show

as i've mentioned on the other torrents, it was billed as just that

wizz's last show before retirement

but i, and i'm sure many others, didn't truly believe it

as the brilliant sam grassie, support on the night, said in his post on wizz's passing: "he nailed every tune and was so in the groove, [we] were in awe! this 86 year old man was saying he should retire and his playing was still light years ahead of us!"

in fact, better than anything i could write, i'm going to post the rest of sam's tribute below

one thing before that, though

the final track here is wizz's son (and long time on-stage cohort), simeon, paying tribute to his dad

as part of this, he presented wizz with the traditional retirement gift - a carriage clock!

with 'wizz jones' scribbled on it in marker pen

it meant that we all finished wizz's final show in tears of laughter instead of tears of sadness

and i'm pretty sure he would have wanted it that way

what a guitar player, what a singer, what a wonderful man

how we'll miss him

and now i'll leave the rest to sam:

"Wizz was self deprecating but anyone who wrestles with six strings would know he was one of a kind. The loss of Wizz has got me thinking about this whole 60s folk guitar thing that a few of us are chasing. Its not about complicated riffs and finger positions, its just about having your guitar and not needing anything else, following wherever or whatever that is regardless of the other noise. Wizzs guitar playing and songs tell you he lived that life."

amen to that

enjoy
