I have never traded this widely, I may well have traded a tape of this, but this is the first time I've released a digital version , now that Ralph has passed, its time . This show was a corker, especially Ralphs compositions , quite honestly, good as they are , the others were not really in his league.

But unfortunately the show was marred by average sound .

The best sounding of the three players was Grigoryan , the hall had a lot of reverb and is not ideal for amplified music and at the time the PA wasn't one of the best either.

The trio themselves sounded muddy much of the time, one of the main reasons why I never released this widely. Whoever was mixing had some problems balancing the mix of acoustic and electric guitars on most of their tracks.
I have modified the mix to try and make it less muddy. it sounds a lot better but one can only do so much when the PA is average .
Meeting Ralph.
Afterwards I had a long chat with Ralph in the foyer. He was such a charming guy, with no pretensions whatsoever, he had been talking to Kim Bonython, the Australian promoter who did so much to bring great jazz and rock artists to Australia, he was the guy responsible for arranging Oregons only tour to the wide brown land. Kim was ancient but still, was somehow getting himself to gigs, and Ralph mentioned how significant his contribution was to visiting overseas jazz artists back in the 70s . Ralph signed my copy of Anthem and we chatted about his improvised work within Oregon , of course there was zero chance of them ever touting again due to the costs and potentially small audiences. The highlight for me in this show was Ralphs rendition of Solitary Woman, the dynamics in that piece is just superb and the sound was about as good as it got all night.
